Please Help

Dear Friends of the Malaby Store,

 Historic Larimer County (HLC) has accomplished so much over the past two years to save and preserve our special Emma Malaby Store!

 Our successes include:

• Accepting ownership of the Malaby Store through a generous donation;
• Designation of the Store as a Local Historic Landmark by the Fort Collins City Council;
• Hundreds of volunteer hours of labor to clean, remove wall paper, paint, and make minor repairs to the building;
• Dedicated volunteers taking on the tedious work to identify and catalog the large collection of historical materials (ongoing); and
• Hosting two very successful open houses with over 1300 visitors.

But our historic Emma Malaby Store needs your help!  We have used previous financial donations and grants to undertake a comprehensive architectural and structural/engineering assessment of the condition of the building. This work has provided us with a detailed plan for much needed repairs and maintenance.

The most critical repair is the emergency replacement of the aging and deteriorating roof structure and exterior roof that we fear may not survive another big spring snow. (It is already leaking toward the front of the building.} Structural engineers have determined the roof structure, dating from the early 1880s, needs to be immediately replaced and strengthened.

HLC has applied for a $150,000 grant from the Colorado State Historical Fund which, if awarded, will cover 75% of the cost. But we must raise a 25% ($50,000) cash match by the end of 2024. And we need your generous support to reach this critical goal.

We welcome any donation amount, but as further incentive we will recognize the following levels by publicizing your name or business:

$ 100+             as a donor in our monthly eNewsletter.
$ 500+             on the donor page of our website.
$ 1,000+          on a list of donors that will be posted inside the store.

And for a very generous donation of $5,000+, we will take you and ten of your friends on a special walking history and architecture tour in Larimer County by professional history and historic preservation professionals.
